CREATIVE PROCESS

In the Valley of Western MA, Marie shares creative space with her family refinishing shop. Familiar tools and industrial products are close at hand, perfect for her free-spirited approach to abstract painting.

"The elements of composition are my constant hardwired companions. Blurring edges and carving lines to reveal the color underneath, truly mesmerizes me. The Materials and Tools

Uncommon Materials for Uncommon Paintings

Using materials that are traditionally equated to tradesmen and decoration: lime plaster, stain, house paint, and urethane in combination with more traditional fine art materials. Marie creates a textural contrast that brings you into woods, replicating both the look and feel of bark pine needles and leaves.

Layering The Paint

Blending Texture, Color, and Mood

Blurring edges and carving lines to reveal color underneath. Look into the spaces between, to find unique moments of beauty hidden among the layers. Striving to soften the lines between form and space so the vibrational edges offer something new entirely-a little cosmos of dynamic yet subtle play.

The Evolution of the Work

Each Piece Informs the Next

Art that evolves like the woods that lend their inspiration. Each piece, interconnected to the next like the entangled roots of an old-growth forest. A lineage captured in canvas and paint and illuminated by sunlight peering through. An unending cycle of natures renewal.

The Common Thread:

The Creativity of Nature

At home in the forest in the company of the tall timbers ever reaching towards the sky. The trees are family, friends, and confidants of the highest order. Walking among them, feeling the leaves underfoot as the light traces abstract gems along the forest floor. I am at peace.
