We all slept, tucked into our cozy bunks while the ocean rolled and the boat swayed in harmony with the waves.
The golden light brought us to the deck, shuffling about in squinty silence.
The air, thick and warm carried, “good morning” across time and space.
Together we shuffled to the rail and leaned toward the horizon line.
“Hello!” I called, “Hello!” And from way beyond my voice bounced about and traveled back, “Hello! hello!”
We smiled then, to the sea and to each other, all at once grateful for
